Dr. Mark T. Johnson

Co-founder and CEO

Inventing is Mark’s passion. Having created around 800 patent families during 37 years at Philips Research, Mark is one of the world’s most prolific inventors. He realized that building portfolios of patents which represent tangible control points is a process—one he formalized and broadly applied to both hardware and digital propositions across Deep-Tech and Health-Tech.

Mark has a 10-year track record of running IP projects while coaching international teams throughout Philips. As co-founder and CEO of IPACE, he has tailored these IP processes beyond the requirements of multinationals, making his experience accessible to ventures, scaleups and their investors. A PhD physicist from Cambridge, Mark has written books with Nobel Prize winners and created Amazon’s Kindle e-book display.

Dr. Igor J. Berezhnoy

Co-founder and Technical Lead

Igor has a background in applied mathematics and data science, with almost three decades of experience in machine learning and data science. During his PhD with the Van Gogh Museum, he developed image-processing techniques to determine artwork provenance.

In 2007, he joined Philips, where he worked across fields ranging from image processing to digital customer engagement, while generating IP and creating analytic solutions for multiple business units. His expertise in data science and artificial intelligence allows him to design IPACE’s proprietary tooling around the company’s IP processes. His drive for technical excellence and innovation led him to co-found IPACE B.V. in February 2024.
