IPACE B.V. is proud to recognize the excellent work of Lukas Schuijers, a student from Koning Willem I College, who successfully completed his internship with us—earning an excellent final grade for his contribution.
Lukas was tasked with developing a front-end tool to support IPACE’s internal workflows for constructing and analyzing patent landscapes. The assignment focused on creating an accessible interface for managing complex Derwent-based IP data, tailored to non-technical users.
The tool follows a three-stage functional model, ranging from basic keyword handling to advanced automated keyword exploration. Lukas completed Stage I, which includes:
- An interface for modifying keyword filters
- Excel export functionality for downstream analysis
- Secure integration using technologies including Flask, PyOTP and Bcrypt
What sets Lukas’ work apart is his ability to design the solution with future scalability in mind. Although he implemented only the first stage, he laid the technical foundation to support Stage II and Stage III with minimal refactoring. His approach went beyond coding—it involved system-level architectural thinking, balancing functionality, usability and extensibility.
We commend Lukas for his professionalism, initiative and clear grasp of both software design and IP workflow needs.
His contribution will serve as a solid platform for future development at IPACE. We wish Lukas all the best in his future academic endeavors.
